Practising the Kibtisk Method

My blog is called Kibtisk Practitioner. But what am I practising?

In addition to the standard practices of the Kibtisk Way of ardzýn (self-examination), vitren (facilitating spirituality), and ihrekhunciünen (adjusting the atmosphere), I intend this year to put the Kibtisk Method to practice.

The Kibtisk Method is essentially a methodical approach to practising the Kibtisk Way. It works like this:
  • focus is placed on the four elements which correspond conceptually and etymologically to the Four Central Notions of the Kibtisk Way (ardt 'the inner-self', associated with earth; vitre 'spirituality-facilitating', associated with water, ihre 'the atmosphere', associated with the air; and vira 'the home' associated with fire)
  • each of the four elements (and thereby the Four Notions) are linked to the four seasons twice, creating eight "Tides"
  • each of these "Tides" lasts around 45-46 days, corresponding to either the first or second half of the four seasons.
  • the link between the elements, Notions, seasons, and Tides allows us to spend 45-46 days focusing on each Notion twice per year.

So for example, the season of spring began on 20th March. Spring is associated with the earth (because the earth is reborn) and the earth is etymologically and conceptually linked to the ardt: the inner-self. So between 20th March and 5th May (the 46 day Tide) the focus is on the ardt.

It also means that during this Tide the practice of ardzýn (self-examination) is done. We begin the year bettering ourselves through introspection, allowing growth to happen within as it is happening without. We prepare our hearts to increase in warmth as the earth increases in warmth. And so that is what I am practising this Tide.

There is more to the Method than that of course. There is the kurene, which is a means of representing the elements of different Tides in relation to each other. There are also the names of the Tides and the day of focus for each one, but we can come to all that another time. For now though, I am examining myself, looking within to see what is being planted within me, before the next Tide when the rains come.

Why not join me on my journey? Between now and early May, why not focus on your inner-self? Ask yourself what the condition of your heart is, and what you are going to do to improve it to benefit others as the year begins.

Let me know how you do @petrekibtzone.

Keep up to date with all things Kibtisk @kibtiskhub and on r/kibtisk.

I'll be posting again soon with some reflection on how my self-examination has gone so far this Tide.

Ihra for now!
